Yesterday, we celebrated Labor Day by going to the zoo with some of our good friends, the Thompson Family. Chris Thompson is in residency with Matt, and his wife Jenny and I have become good friends over the past 2 years since they moved here. The Thompsons have 2 adorable kids, Jude (age 3) and Madelynn (age 16 months). Eli calls Jude his "best buddy", and he loves "Madewynn" too! It was so nice to be able for all of us to hang out together!
We started off by riding on 1 of the miniature trains that the San Antonio Zoo has. Eli and Jude loved it and had fun sitting next to each other! Mr. Chris was brave enough to sit with them to make sure they did not get into too much mischief. They actually were very well behaved and had fun saying "choo choo." A few times, Jude started to stand up when the train was moving, and Eli would use his arm to pull Jude back down. He did not want his friend to get hurt..too funny.

After the train ride, we ventured into the zoo. We saw lots of animals, including snakes, spiky Texas lizards (never had seen 1 of those before), a komodo dragon, fish, monkeys, birds, hippos, alligators, etc. We even saw a green tree snake climb into a tree. Since it was 11 am when we got in the zoo, we tried to stick to the exhibits that were either air-conditioned or shaded. Sweet Parker fell asleep in the stroller for about 30 minutes while we looked at the animals. Then, we took the kids to the Discovery House where there are toys to play with and a little creek inside with fishing rods for the kids to play with. Eli had fun catching some fish, and then he found some tools and started playing with those. He especially loved hammering. Soon after that, we had to go home because it was lunchtime, and Parker was getting hungry. :)
