Matt's day off

Since Matt had Monday off, we decided to go downtown for breakfast to a place highly recommended by a friend. We drove down to the King William District where the Guenther House is located. The interesting fact about the Guenther family is that they came to America from Germany and created the Pioneer flour mill which is known specifically for Pioneer biscuit mix (you can buy it in Wal-Mart....our friend Ben Kilman makes some mean Pioneer biscuits). The weather was very pleasant that morning so we got to sit outside for breakfast. Matt and I consumed way too much food, but it was delicious! We had biscuits, pancakes, fruit, sausage...just writing this is making me hungry.

After filling ourselves to the brim, we decided to take a stroll along the King William District. We were in the residential area so we got to see some beautiful homes with varying architectual designs. We found that the river is just behind a few of them, and a lot of people were jogging or walking along it. Very peaceful!

I just wish we could spend more days like this...maybe one day! If any of you come to see us, we will have to take you to the Guenther House. The only catch is we have to go on a weekday because we heard that there is a 2 hour wait on the weekends. As for residency, Matt is doing a Vascular Surgery rotation this month. The hours have been a little better than General Surgery (which has been nice). Today, he got to do a temporal artery biopsy. He tried to show me a video of that procedure last night, and I almost gagged. I cannot handle cutting someone's head...no thank you!

Enjoy Labor Day weekend (those who actually get Monday off)!
